What would you do if you realizing you were witnessing a terrible crime? Step in on your own? Call the cops? If difficult to image would we would do if we were placed in a horrifying situation. Luckily, 4 young men stopped an awful crime in it’s tracks.

The friends- Arnaud Nimenya, James Hielema, Starlyn Rivas-Perez and Carsyn Wright- were skateboarding around a mall in Canada when they noticed an older man carrying a younger, intoxicated girl over his shoulder. The boys sensed that something was off, and they continued to survey the scene.

One of skateboarders noticed that the girl was “scuffed up and dirty” and that she looked distraught.

"She was screaming and yelling. She just wanted to be out of there.” Carsyn recalled.

That’s when they decided to confront the man and make sure everything was ok. The older man said he was calling the girl’s father for a ride home, and at first, the group believed him. “You don't want to really think of the worst in somebody like that. You don't want that situation to be real, so you just brush it off and hope for the best.” Carsyn said.

But something didn’t sit right with the boys, and they decided to check on the girl again.

When they saw the man take the intoxicated girl into a stairwell, they followed him and found him sexually assaulting the young woman. The boys knew they had to step in and help.

The man immediately tried to get away and push the boys aside, but they weren’t going to let him off that easily.

“He pushed me aggressively out of the way, kinda like just gives me the smile, like, 'I can do this. You can't do anything about it.’” Arnaud said.

One of the boys stayed with the young woman while the other three chased the man down the street. The attacker tried to fight the boys off with one of their skateboards, but they were able to hold him until the police arrived.

The man was arrested and charged with sexual assault, and the four heroes were honored for their bravery at the Calgary Police Chief’s Awards Gala.

When the boys received the call, they were actually afraid to answer, as they were concerned that they would be punished for stepping in and fighting the attacker. That was most definitely not the case, and they young men were praised for their heroic actions that day.

What a truly horrible situation for them to encounter, and they definitely acted bravely. It is nice to know that there are people out there who will step in and help someone in need. These boys definitely deserve the awards and praise.
